Yearbook Photo Controversy... what the fuck...

Seriously... what the hell...

Yes, the Today Show.

Quite honestly, I'm a bit ashamed. Because, yes, I'm a student at Durango High School, and I will freely admit that because this whole thing is rather ridiculous.

First off, why was this even made a story? Oh, I know why - because our local newspaper is mostly a piece of trash. Oh NO, there's nothing ELSE going on in our town, like maybe something worth reading about? No, all there is is Sydney Spies, her whack-job mother, and a provocative yearbook picture.

What the actually fuck?

Of all the shit for Durango to make national news on, it has to be THIS brat and her attention-whore mother?

There are literally five other things off the top of my head that you could say positively about DHS:
1. Nationally recognized theatre program - need I say more?
2. One of our wrestlers is a state champion and is I believe moving on to international.
3. Cooking team wins national competitions frequently.
4. One of the orchestra kids is definitely going to be a virtuoso. He's THAT good at Violin and Piano.
5. Aerospace wins INTERNATIONAL competitions.

But no. We make the news because of HER.
The first time we made news was kind of funny because it was for a hay prank that closed the school for four days. Amusing, not much harm done (except to the school budget, but that's because our principle is an idiot), the end.

It's taking it too far when this makes TV and British news.

The only thing that's cheerful is that the yearbook staff is totally backed by pretty much everyone in America and beyond. Because it was the head editors, which I know personally and are pretty respectable people, who rejected the picture, not the administration, not anyone else. Just them. She's wrong in thinking that this was all the admins, because it wasn't. Her peers didn't want her besmirching the yearbook for the rest of us, and I completely agree. If it's her "freedom of expression," well, she honestly needs to think a little about what it's saying about her. It's simply confirming what the rest of us thought of her before all this, and that's that quite frankly, she's a prostitute. And I've SEEN her other photos from that shoot. Some of them are actually really nice pictures, and she does look really beautiful. Why can't she use one of THOSE pictures, that show off her beauty instead of her proclivity to sleep around?

And oh Holy Dumbledore, don't even get me STARTED on her mother... this was pretty much all orchestrated by her. I mean, we already know that she's an attention seeker. She "came out as a lesbian," what was it, two years ago? Something like that. And just wouldn't shut up about it. Don't confuse this with thinking that's I'm anti-gay or something, because I'm not - my best friend is gay. And sure, that's great for her and all, but it got to the point where she was just looking for attention, and is now encouraging her daughter to the same. Is she her mother or her pimp? Because I can't tell the difference.

Final bit, regarding both rights and some more yearbook stuff... yes, the yearbook will let the picture be in the senior ad section. Why? Because they have absolutely NO control over what pictures are put in there - it's all the parents choice. But the senior pictures section they DO have control over, so of course they're going to ban it. And it's not like they're charging her extra, it's the same rate for everyone. And as for rights... as a student, you pretty much have no rights. So think on that.

That's all I have to say for now...
And now, thanks to my mum's suggestion, I'm going to write a letter to The Today Show. Show 'em what DHS is REALLY made of.
